Let's start with the main culprit, WATER. Did you know that 1" of rainfall on a 1,000 Sq. Ft. Roof will send more than 600 Gallons of Water into your gutters? Every gallon of water in your gutters will put 8lbs of pressure on the fascia, eventually causing the roof to pull apart from the house.
Clogged gutters can cause water damage, mold, flooded basements, and foundation damage. Any water that spills over clogged gutters will run down your walls, window frames, siding and doors. Over time this excess water will cause your home to warp and rot. They're also perfect breeding grounds for termites, ants, mosquitoes, hornets, birds and other pests.
Ideally, gutters and downspouts should be checked for signs of damage or clogs twice a year. Check first in late Spring and again in late Fall. The ground around your home also needs to slope away from your foundation at least 6" for the first 10 feet on a slope of 5%.
